About Jacob Valois

Jacob Valois is a musician, guitarist, and teacher, local to Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. Jacob has performed with many different groups and talents in Ontario such as Matthew Warnock, Roddy Elias, Doug Wilde, and has recently been placed as a finalist in Jazz Sudbury’s “2023 Emerging Artist Foundation" as a band leader in the Jacob Valois Quartet. After studying jazz guitar at Algoma University, Jacob went on to receive an Honours Bachelors of Arts (specialization Music) from Laurentian University, and a Bachelors of Education from Nipissing University. Jacob has been instructing guitar students for many years, both privately and through Long & McQuade, using his experiences studying education to guide him in creating and refining accessible, effective, and easy to follow guitar lessons and resources for his private students. He specializes in jazz guitar, however has lots of experience playing multiple genres such as rock, blues, country, metal, and folk. Teaching guitar is just one of the ways that Jacob shares his love and passion for music in his community, he also is a regular performer all over Sault Ste. Marie and the surrounding area, as a band leader for the Jacob Valois Quartet, as a guitarist in the metal project Convergence, as a guitarist in Rhythm Junction, lead guitarist in the Jeffrey Wright Band, as well as a guitarist in the rock band Turbo Dad. Jacob is a strong advocate that all musical styles can benefit from learning the approach to the guitar that jazz offers.
